JRA prioritises pothole repair for festive season safety | Infrastructure news

pothole xxxThe Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) says it will continue working systemically to address emergency repairs, making dangerous road defects safe and carrying out potholes repairs to ensure the safety of Johannesburg residents this festive season.

The JRA plans to continue its operations over the December and January holidays with scheduled maintenance, repairs to traffic signals and a dedicated team to address after hour emergencies.

“Following heavy rains over the past few weeks, there has been an increase in the number of potholes occurring city-wide,” the agency says.

“The JRA is prioritising pothole repairs, and is currently dealing with a significant backlog. Pothole repairs and road surfacing can only be undertaken during dry conditions, JRA has therefore ensured, that where required, potholes will be made safe until favourable conditions return,” it continues.

Report dangerous road defects

Commenting on the state of the roads transport MMC, Nonhlanhla Makhuba says they are aware of the increase in potholes and sinkholes during and after heavy rainfall. “Efforts will be made to make safe these areas as soon as possible. We urge residents to alert JRA to road defects that could result in serious injury and accidents.”

The JRA says contact details for the various depots are being made available to assist members of the public and they are advised to report dangerous road defects to the listed JRA standby Regional Operations numbers for emergency assistance over the festive season.
