“A traffic management plan has been put in place. Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes during the construction period. Access will be limited to property owners and pedestrian,” the JRA said.
Temporary warning signs have been installed and the road will be barricaded off. Traffic will be redirected via Main Road. Soweto’s Bridge Street Bridge over the Klipspruit River is due for a R37 million makeover by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). The project, which started on 8 January 2018, is expected to reach completion in early January 2019 and involves the reconstruction of the vehicular and pedestrian bridge. The JRA says Bridge Street in Klipspruit West is known to bring traffic to a halt during heavy downpours, rendering it unsafe for pedestrians to cross due to increased water levels on low lying areas of the structure. As part of the construction process the JRA has decided to close Bridge Road to the public throughout the construction period, from 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2018.
