Eskom intensifies pressure on Free State municipalities | Infrastructure news

Eskom on Monday announced that it would be cutting electricity supply to three Free State municipalities after they failed to honour their repayment agreements.

The utility said supply interruptions to the three defaulting municipalities were suspended on 28 June 2018 following satisfactory payments made by all the municipalities.

“The next payments for Tokologo, Masilonyana and Nala Local Municipalities were due on 13 July 2018. The municipalities have failed to honour their payment agreements and have left Eskom with no other option, but to interrupt bulk supply,” the utility said in a statement.

Scheduled supply interruptions will continue from 18 July 2018 from 06:00 – 09:00 and 17:00 – 20:30 from Monday to Friday and from 08:30 – 12:00 and 15:00 – 19:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. The utility noted that from the 25 July 2018 the supply interruptions would run from 06:00 – 20:00 from Monday to Sunday.

“Notwithstanding the above proposed indicative times for the interruption of electricity supply, Eskom may, upon 15 calendar days’ notice, serve the right to disconnect electricity entirely and indefinitely should the electricity debt situation not improve,” the utility added.
