Plastics SA, the body that represents all role-players in the industry, has called on government to use all revenue made from levies on supermarket plastic bags for recycling. Plastics SA says government has made nearly 2 billion rand from levies on supermarket plastic bags since it was introduced in 2004. Half of that money has been allocated to National Treasury. The body says South Africa could develop better recycling facilities and create thousands of jobs if all revenue from levies are were put back into the industry.
