Tailored youth programme enhances talent pool | Infrastructure news

Tailored youth empowerment programmes and internships facilitated by level 1 B-BBEE consulting business Xcel-Sim are placing numerous people in internships and jobs across a variety of sectors.

CEO Simphiwe Vulindlu says Xcel-Sim’s main objective is “to play a leading role in the creation and delivery of innovative workforce solutions and services that will enable learners to gainfully plan better in their pursuit of self-employment or employment.”

In line with this objective, during youth month the company launched its first programme focusing on career coaching, personal branding and CV and interview workshops at the Business Unity South Africa offices in Sandton, facilitated by the ManpowerGroup South Africa, its strategic partner in skills development.

Vulindlu plans to roll out these programmes to matriculants and unemployed graduates across the country, reaching townships and rural communities in line with the current drive to become an inclusive economy. The programmes, which equip young people to handle the world of work, will include the participation of industry experts, creating an immediate networking platform for the participants to gain mentorship or work experience and launch their careers.

Xcel-Sim is also facilitating internships through its internship management programme for work exposure and experience, where it runs the programme and places interns on behalf of companies.

“We are looking for companies able to support interns that don’t have the capacity to run the programme. We are able to tailor programmes in terms of what a company needs, and are able to place interns with specific skills in the areas that companies are looking for,” says Vulindlu.

“We have placed interns and some are going for interviews and getting jobs, so we are seeing the value of this process already.”

Vulindlu believes the programme, if scaled up, could have a significant social impact, especially given escalating unemployment and the mismatch between vacancies and skills.

Xcel-Sim is inviting companies to collaborate with it as strategic partners to promote and advance the socio-economic needs of young people in South Africa that leads to positive social impact and global citizenry.

The company is also calling on South African youth to embrace this and similar initiatives which prove to be game changers when it comes to youth employment.
