The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu is expected to launch the National Water and Sanitation Master Plan on Thursday.
The Master Plan will set out short, medium and long-term plans to ensure water security for South Africa. Some parts of the country are water stressed and this has been exacerbated by the heat wave that has caused enormous evaporation of water resources, leading to continued week on week decline of dam levels. The National Water and Sanitation Master Plan was approved by the Cabinet in 2018 and it points out the priority actions required until 2030 and beyond to ensure water security and equitable access to water and sanitation services for all in South Africa.
Minister Sisulu will also lead a media briefing to announce immediate interventions in the areas that are facing acute water challenges.
