Water is undeniably a precious resource and WWF, through a partnership with Sanlam, are working to conserve our country’s freshwater ecosystems and natural resources. As part of these efforts, the Journey of Water campaign was launched at the end of October, with the aim of connecting urban water users to their water sources, which are often remote. In order to secure South Africa’s water future, these areas need to be protected. “We want to empower South Africans with information about their water sources so they can contribute towards securing this critical part of our natural heritage,” says Christine Colvin, Senior Manager of the WWF Freshwater Programme. “Many South Africans, especially those living in urban areas, do not understand or appreciate where the water that flows from their taps really comes from, and the role natural catchments play in providing it.” For more information, visit www.journeyofwater.co.za.
