Transport Minister Dipuo Peters and deputy human settlements minister Zou Kota Fredericks are in Lwandle outside Cape Town this evening. It was the scene of violence on Monday when a SANRAL obtained eviction order was being carried out. SANRAL owns the land – where about 400 shacks have now been demolished. Peters has apologised on behalf of government and road agency SANRAL – for the evictions…but says people moved back onto the land when previously moved. The city of Cape Town says the affected families will be given short-term shelter. Three community facilities will be made available for one week.
