Consol invests in third science technology lab in the Western Cape | Infrastructure news

Consol Glass, the largest glass manufacturer in Sub-Saharan Africa, has over the past two years invested a total of R750 000 in three school science technology laboratories in the Western Cape. The latest beneficiary of Consol’s commitment to corporate social investment (CSI) is the Intsebenziswano High School in Brown’s Farm, Phillipi.

The school’s science laboratory has been completely revamped – an overhaul that included installation of 10 new computers, a server, smart board, projector and the most recent science and technology software. Prior to Consol sponsoring the science laboratory, the 1 950 learners had no access to practical science education.

The Intsebenziswano High project, valued at R290 000, was a joint initiative between Consol, the Department of Mineral Resources & Department of Education in the Western Cape. Consol Human Resources Director, Thami Mkhuzangwe, says: “Developing communities and empowering people is part of what makes us who we are and why we can definitively say that Consol cares. Our collective Group approach to CSI is aligned with our transformation objectives where the focus is on investment in sustainable programmes that support the Governments’ and our priorities of education, health and social development. With this guiding the decisions we make about which of the many needy and deserving projects we support, the investment in these three school science labs made perfect sense.”

The other schools to benefit from Consol’s investment into education include the Dr Nelson Mandela and Masibambisane High Schools.
