There are only 18 days to go before the closing date for this year’s Best Recycled Product Competition, hosted by the SA Plastics Recyclers Organisation (SAPRO) in partnership with Plastics SA and the Packaging Council of South Africa.
Judging criteria Entries will be judged on the following criteria:1. Each entry must be on its own entry form. An entry fee of R500.00 must accompany each entry. Please note that this fee is non-VAT and includes one ticket to the gala dinner.
2. Each entry must be accompanied by an A4 size, professional quality colour photograph or high resolution (1+ MB) digital image on a clearly marked CD.
3. The actual, physical product must be delivered to the Plastics|SA Head Office, 18 Gazelle Ave, Corporate Park, Midrand, marked for the attention of Annabe Pretorius, along with the entry form, photographs and entry fee.
4. Acknowledgement for all entries will be made by the 27th of August 2012. If no acknowledgement has been received by that date, please contact the organising committee on 083 654 8967.
5. Should entrants require the return of their entries after the competition, arrangements must be made by the entrant to collect the entry from the organisers after the 14th of September 2012.
6. The gala awards dinner will take place in Gauteng on Thursday 13 September 2012, during which the recycler of the material, the manufacturer of the product as well as the brand owner will be acknowledged. Each category will have a winner and the overall winner will be awarded with the PACSA Trophy for the Best Recycled Product 2012.
7. Any company in the SADC region may enter, provided that the recycled material originated in South Africa.
8. Products that have been entered in previous years and did not win, may enter again. Product categories
* Product made from 100 % recyclate
* Product containing a certain percentage post-consumer recycled content
* Product made from a mixture of post-consumer recycled materials
* Novelty entries – i.e. articles made from used and discarded plastics products.
* Life expectancy of product
* Sustainability of product, i.e. long-term demand and market acceptance for product (will it still sell in 5 years’ time?)
* Tonnage (potential tonnages) converted
* Replacement of alternative materials
* Technical achievements in manufacturing excellence to overcome recycled material challenges
* Measures taken to ensure product consistency and customer satisfaction despite recycled material content
* Environmental contribution of product in market place
* Wow! Factor
Various weighting could be used to judge products objectively
