The Rustenburg Municipality has launched a new service delivery programme with the aim of improving service, creating jobs and boosting entrepreneurial development.
The initiative, which is the municipality is calling the #ReDirelaSechaba Service Delivery Programme, was launched as a way for the government to continue its positive service delivery turnaround strategy from 2018. Mpho Khunou, Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM), says the municipality is excited to launch the new programme following the success of last year’s efforts. “Through our turnaround strategy last year, we were able to reduce the number of service complaints related to water services from 4000 to just 20,” Khunou notes. “We increased the City’s electrical capacity to avoid power outages and straining of distribution lines. We saw an improvement of our Green Drop rating from Department of Water and Sanitation and our turnaround times in fixing our roads have lessened significantly,” he adds.Key focus areas
According to Khunou the new programme prioritises five key areas which include: roads, electricity, water, and sanitation and community development.A rapid response team will be put in place to assist with the rollout and maintenance of road infrastructure, improving access to water, stabilising electricity supply through the rollout of more substations and distribution lines as well as improving sanitation facilities.
The municipality says it has set aside a fleet valued at R110 million for this purpose.
