Passengers using the Gautrain on Tuesday have been stuck for several hours on a train travelling from Midrand to Centurion.

According to the Bombela Concession Company, the operator of the Gautrain, the problem was unclear but the train driver was forced to use emergency brakes.

One passenger said that the train was overloaded and that they were not receiving sufficient updates from officials, they were only informed that there is a technical issue.

Another passenger said he has been stuck on the train before and that the train started smoking 5 minutes before reaching the Centurion station.
