Security firm tips truck owners on safety, costs | Infrastructure news

Arusha branch Manager for Knight Support Tanzania Limited Kyriakos Bwako has advised transporters and truck owners to install tracking systems that would enable them save fuel costs and protect their trucks against misuse by the drivers.

“Arusha is a hub for many transport companies for goods from Nairobi in Kenya and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania but many times you find trucks that have run out of fuel on roadsides due to unscrupulous drivers who cheat their employers by not buying sufficient fuel for the trucks,” he told East African Business Week in an interview last week in Arusha, Tanzania.

He said the company has introduced an asset control tracking system that provides asset management and tracking facilities for fleet owners, public transport companies, car hire companies and vehicle owners on asset movement locations and condition

“Based on geographical positioning system networks among others, the system has been developed exclusively for the East African market aimed at reduction of costs in the transport sector,” he said.

He said the company is also providing first aid courses for dealing with emergencies including fire outbreaks in homes that would cause losses both of lives of children and properties in houses.

He added that the training course is designed around incidents involving babies and children and situations that may arise while in the home or out at play.

“The course is designed to provide with your housemaid added security that if a medical emergency were to happen, your housemaid/girls will be able to cope,” he told East African Business Week.

He explained that the three hour course in Swahili or English covers child basic life support, dealing with cuts and bleeding, treatment of scalds and burns, managing potential fractures, how to manage lost teeth, how to deal with shock and chocking and a chip pan fire demonstration.
