About 13 000 highly qualified Nigerians with qualifications such as PhD’s, masters and bachelor degrees, have applied to be trucks drivers for the Dangote Group.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria’s unemployment rate is around the 23.9 percent mark.

Out of the 13 000 people who have applied for the Graduate Executive Truck Driver position, there are six PhD, 65 MBA, 649 masters and over 8 460 bachelor degree holders.

According to the Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote, the company only require the services of 100 drivers but have been overwhelmed by the amount of applications received.

Some analysts have noted that it is quite surprising that so many highly qualified individuals would apply to be drivers in such a booming economy.
