Voith South Africa, with help from family, friends and volunteers, assisted in sanding and painting a portion of the handrails at the IthembelihleLsen School for physically disabled children in Primrose, Johannesburg.
The school, which has been Voith Turbo South Africa’s corporate social responsibility partner since 2011, has over 200 learners with physical disabilities such as muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and amputees, and also has many learners who board at the school.According to Penny Burrows, Voith’s human resources manager, the school is in need of refurbishment to help make it more suitable for these special needs learners. “We were under the expert guidance of volunteer Simon Mahlalela and our thanks are extended to him for his time and patience on the project. Aside from the aching muscles, it was fun and a rewarding exercise for our volunteers, without whom this project could not have been completed.”
“A lot of time and effort is being put into this project and it is a true gift to be able to help those in need,” concludes Burrows.
