MBSA shows diversity | Infrastructure news

The Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) commercial vehicle division showcased the diversity of its range of trucks, vans and buses at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS).

Kobus van Zyl, vice president for commercial vehicles at MBSA, told journalists at JIMS, “The success of the company’s commercial vehicle division in meeting customer needs for the cost effective running of vehicle fleets could be seen in its market leadership in most of the segments it contests in South Africa.”

“In September 2013, it held sway over competitors in a variety of categories, including the Large Van Segment where the Sprinter captures nearly half of the market; in the extra-heavies over 16.5ton sales across the company’s product range is the best in the industry with 32% market share and buses are the best performer at 27%. Combined product performance in the 8.5ton category as well as the over 8.5ton heavy and extra heavy also stands at the same percentage. In the over 3.5ton segment MBSA leads the field by far with a combined 26% market share.”

Adding,“Cost of ownership remains the most important consideration for a commercial vehicle owner when selecting the ideal vehicle for his business. In addition to offering the widest range of applications in the industry, MBSA creates synergies between its diversity of brands, leveraging off technological innovations that other producers are not able to do.”

“Our products fulfil a specific need for reliability, flexibility and minimised operating costs. We build supportability into our vehicles from concept to roll-out. Our goal is to provide a range that delivers full capabilities in the specific application in the customers’ business, at maximum cost-efficiency, with a complementary mobility solution to match.”
