Intelligent Transport Society South Africa elects new president | Infrastructure news

Mike van Tonder has been elected President of the Intelligent Transport Society South Africa (ITSSA).

Says van Tonder, “I feel honoured to be elected to this position by the ITSSA membership and plan to leave a lasting legacy of my term in office as president of ITSSA. We as a board have in the past two years significantly improved our corporate governance in line with the latest legislation and we have identified several new challenges in this coming year to take the organisation to a new level representing our membership.”

Aiming to keep its members up to date with the latest revolutionary advances in intelligent transport systems, the ITSSA strategic objective are driven by goals which include:

– Delivering value-added services
– Expanding ITSSAs delivery of value-added services to members;
– Growing its membership base and network or partners and collaborators
– Contributing to an enabling environment
– Strengthening the strategic positioning and brand equity of ITS South Africa in the local and global market; and
– Cultivating political and governmental championing of ITS.

Concludes van Tonder, “ITSSA is the enabler of smart transportation technology and therefore plays a vital role in social upliftment and economic empowerment in South Africa.”

Van Tonder is Aurecon’s technical director and intelligent transport systems service line leader and will also be responsible for overseeing ITSSA’s vision to achieve a balanced and integrated transport system in sustainable cities with public transport as a mode of choice.
