Angola road project enters new phase | Infrastructure news

Construction of a 96km stretch of road between the Caconda and Chipindo municipalities in Huila province, Angola, will enter a new phase when the bank of the Cunene River is cleared.

Daniel Salupassa, Chipindo’s municipal administrator, told Angolan news agency Angop that 58km of the road had already been paved by the Planasul Company, with the project expected to cost $74 million.

Three bridges will be built along the route, one of which will be over 100 metres long and bridge the Cunene River, 64km from Caconda. At the moment, the connection from Chipindo to Lubango is made via kilometre 50 in Kuvango, over a difficult journey totalling 420km.

Work on the project first began two years ago.
