Construction of a 9 000 square metre double basement parking structure, at a cost of R200 million, has begun at the Dube TradePort. Construction work is expected to take a total of 18 months and will create 500 jobs.
The structure forms part of Dube TradePort’s strategy to attract private investment, reduce costs to developers and secure a long-term revenue stream. It is adjacent to Dube TradePort’s head office and will accommodate 573 parking bays. A 21 500 square metre office and retail development will be developed by Eureka Capital South Africa once the basement is complete, and will take place in three phases with the first phase totalling 6 500 square meters.Dube TradePort Corporation Acting CEO, Hamish Erskine, said Dube TradePort would continue to invest in infrastructure at Dube City in an effort to ensure that the developments within the precinct are valuable and sustainable for developers, investors, users and enterprises.
MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Michael Mabuyakhulu, added that the investment would create a fertile ground for the development of a prosperous public private partnership regime.
