Emergency services had to react quickly after more than 100 containers – some containing explosives – caught fire in Isando, east of Johannesburg, on Monday.
About 50 containers burnt down completely, while the balance were salvaged, Ekurhuleni’s disaster and emergency management services spokesperson William Ntladi said. The containers were packed next to a railway line on the premises of the Transnet Freight Rail company. “Some had plastic stored inside them, others had some explosives inside,” he said, adding he did not know what kind of explosives they were.He said they were alerted just after 13:00 and the blaze was extinguished three hours later.
No injuries or fatalities were reported and the cause was unclear.-News24 Source: News 24 wire Watch the video
