The Department of Environmental Affairs recently hosted a National Waste Pickers Integration Workshop to provide insight into the role of waste pickers in the recycling sector. The workshop also discussed the draft national guidelines on waste pickers integration, developed by key stakeholders in the sector. The guidelines explain what the integration of waste pickers will entail, along with different approaches to integration, while also providing practical guidance to municipalities and industry on how to integrate waste pickers.
