The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Senzo Mchunu, along with the Premier of Gauteng, Mr David Makhura as well as the Mayor of Tshwane, Councillor Randall Williams, have restored the supply of water to the residents of Laudium and Kosmosdal in Tshwane.
The Minister’s intervention comes after it was reported that the communities of Laudium and Kosmosdal had been without water since Tuesday, 24 August 2021. Following communication between the Minister and the Premier, a meeting was urgently convened between the Minister, the Premier, the Mayor, the Chairperson and Chief Executive of Rand Water yesterday, 28 August 2021. It was discovered that there had been a restricted flow of water to reservoirs which provide water to the area, resulting in them running dry.It is still to be determined as to how the valves before and after the City of Tshwane’s Laudium meter were closed, and a thorough assessment will be conducted.
Since assuming office as the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Mchunu has emphasised the strengthening of intergovernmental relations, and this act serves as but one example of how the three spheres of government can work together in service of the people! In respect of the department’s mandate, Minister Mchunu said the following: “The measure of the department’s service is the actual flow of water from the tap for use by citizens and that was the result at around 18h00 yesterday evening when the communities of Laudium and Kosmosdal had access to water! Contrary to the perception that Government cannot be trusted, Government is indeed working very hard and our actions debunk these perceptions”.
