With the controversial e-tolling saga underway, it seems the SANRAL board has reached a decision on who will replace former CEO Nazir Alli in the hot seat.
Following Alli’s resignation on Monday, Engineering Executive and long-standing SANRAL member Koos Smit, has been appointed Acting CEO at SANRAL. Smit, who holds a BSc in civil engineering, is said to be an engineer whose experience spans more than three decades, including a significant contribution towards the development and maintenance of SA’s national road network. The SANRAL board will undertake a process to recruit a permanent CEO to replace Alli.According to a statement issued by chairman of the SANRAL board Tembakazi Mnyaka, despite the speculations surrounding Alli’s resignation, there was no pressure on him to resign and it was done entirely on his own accord. Mnyaka also stated that SANRAL had complete confidence in Smit’s ability as Acting CEO.
