Ethiopian Airlines will receive its first B777 freighter aircraft on the 19th of September from Boeing at Everett, Washington.
Ethiopian will be the first carrier to operate the ultra modern freighter in Africa according to the press statement released by the airline. The B777 is unparalleled in freighter aircraft for long range capabilities, temperature control for fresh produce and life science materials, exceptional cargo and fuel efficiency according to Tewolde Gebremariam Chief Executive of the airline. Ethiopian expects to deploy this aircraft on longer freight routes to transport fruits and vegetables and flowers in an effort to expand and enhance cargo services he said.Ethiopian Airlines is the largest cargo carrier in Africa and operates six freighter aircraft to 24 destinations in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
The airline ordered the B777 in October 2011 and will receive the rest of the B777 it has ordered in 2014 as part of plans to enhance its cargo services.
It is to be remembered that Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of its first Dreamliner Aircraft last month, Ethiopian is the only airline, other than Japan, to receive the new class of aircraft affirming its pioneer status in African aviation said Tewolde. The new aircraft is also a testament to the airline’s commitment to give its passengers the best travel experience with the best that the industry has to offer he said.
