Water Affairs Minister Edna Molewa has announced multimillion rand water projects for Colesberg in the Northern Cape.
The projects will include upgrading the old water infrastructure, which was initially designed to supply water to small communities. Plans are also in place to provide water borne sanitation to the area to address the sanitation backlog. Molewa said the focus is on increasing water availability in Colesburg and has assured residents that government will do everything in its power to ensure that they get running water. The minister also expressed concern that the Umsobomvu Municipality is not currently monitoring and reporting non-revenue water and water losses.
Molewa’s announcement follows the launch of a R23 million Waste Water Treatment Works in Colesburg.
