The Tanzanian government plans to amend the country’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) law to attract more private companies.
The government has admitted that the current law is bureaucratic and has scared many private investors away. As a result, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Mary Nagu, told the National Assembly that the government will bring a schedule of amendment for the PPP Act signed in 2010.Nagu said that the government will train experts who will deal with issues related to PPP, as well as establishing a special fund to coordinate all the issues related to PPP, Tanzania Daily News reported.
“We want to incorporate private actors heavily in the government projects, but many have declined due to bureaucracy in the PPP Law,” she said. “I believe that private partners are crucial in development and we need to increase their involvement in developing our nation.’
