Request for proposals – plastic recycling projects | Infrastructure news

This is a call for recycling support proposals for projects supporting the mechanical recycling of post-consumer polyolefin plastic packaging.

POLYCO is looking to partner with companies under three distinct categories.

1.  Strategic growth and development projects:

These are larger-scale, new recycling projects aimed at substantially increasing the mechanical recycling of post-consumer polyolefin plastics (over 2400 tonnes per annum).

These include:

  • the installation of recycling equipment for new recycling operations.
This only applies to a completely new venture where the source of PCR is from a new source and where recycled polymer will be used in the production of a product that is currently in limited supply to the market, with contracted off-take by the manufacturer.

2. Supply chain efficiency projects:

This second category is aimed at maximizing the sustainable growth in the production volume of mechanically recycled polyolefin plastics (between 840 and 1200 tonnes per annum).

These include:

  • support to purchase minor capital equipment to overcome current supply chain constraints
  • support for the recyclers’ sourcing initiatives of new sources of separated and sorted polyolefin packaging material in order to grow their recycled tonnes production volumes.
3.  End-use development / consumer projects:

These are smaller projects focused on increasing the number and/or visibility of products that are manufactured from recycled polyolefin polymers, with the aim of replacing virgin material or other material types.

These could include:

  • support for marketing campaign costs to launch or increase the sales volumes of a new recycled content product
  • support for R&D costs for the development of new recycled products, where the polyolefin raw material source is new and the product being developed is unique.
