Zambia secures $250 million road funding | Infrastructure news

Funding for a project that will rehabilitate Zambia’s Chinsali-Nakonde Road is to be provided by the African Development Bank.

Approximately 210km of road, which forms part of the Trans-Africa Highway/North-South Corridor, will be renewed at a cost of $250 million.

Civil works, rehabilitation of 50km of feeder roads and complementary initiatives/ social infrastructure are the main components of the development.

The funding is needed to improve road transport infrastructure and reduce transport costs between northern Zambia and southern Tanzania, and facilitate increased cross-border trade, enhance tourism, and promote regional integration.

Construction is due to be completed by early 2017.
