Majakaneng water supply looking better than ever | Infrastructure news

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is making great progress with water supply in Majakaneng and the surrounding communities.

According to the department the reticulation network in the area has been charged up to 75%, which is the highest percentage the network has ever reached up to date. As a result the water reticulation system now has water for the first time in eight years.

“All four boreholes are operational and being pumped up to full capacity and the level of the reservoir has been stabilised, it now fluctuates between 83% and 93% full,” says Sputnik Ratau, department spokesperson.

An additional five boreholes will be brought into production with the excess water expected to back feed into the Brits system.

After realising that water leakages constitutes to a large amount of water losses, The Department of water and sanitation has detected and repaired water leaks in the area.

To date, approximately 933 leaks have been repaired and completed and 860 have been inspected. About 408 community contractors have been awarded contracts to deal with leaks.

DWS has also installed 30 JoJo tanks in identified locations along the reticulated areas by the end of April 2015.

“The Department is working hand in hand with the community to restore water security and community members seem to be pleased with the progress,” concludes Ratau.
