Mpumalanga municipalities recently received training on the Blue and Green Drop Systems to ensuring effective and efficient water and sanitation service delivery to communities.
The Blue and Green Drop certification programmes are innovative means to regulate tap water quality management and to sustainably improve the level of wastewater management. Training was implemented as an intervention to deal with the poor performance of municipalities in the 2014 Blue Drop and Green Drop performance assessmentsMunicipal officials were equipped with the necessary information, training and knowledge on how the system operates to enable them to be able to upload the necessary and required data. It has been noted that some municipalities do not upload the data correctly, resulting in poor scoring during assessments.
The high turnover of officials in most municipalities also necessitated the training to ensure that the new officials are familiar with the systems. With the information and knowledge gathered during the training, municipalities should be able to provide the required information ensuring that assessments are a true reflection of the plants and municipalities’ performances.
