The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) will officially launch the 2016/17 State of Safety Report later this month.
The report, which published annually by the regulator, measures the pulse of railway safety in South Africa and provides a foundation for research into new solutions that will enable operators to accurately address identified areas of risk that impede railway safety. The launch is set to take place in Johannesburg on Monday 20 November 2017 and will be attended by Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi, among other dignitaries.Under the theme “All aboard: A journey to zero occurrences,” the launch will consist of commissions, in which rail experts, industry captains and stakeholders will deliberate on possible solutions to improve safety and commit to a course of action.
“Safer railways are possible when all the efforts of improving it are aligned and coordinated. This dialogue is key to ensuring that all stakeholders understand their role in reducing the number of railway occurrences,” the regulator concludes.
