Former Eskom and Transnet CEO, Brian Molefe has been implicated in the looting of parastatal, Transnet.
According to a report obtained by City Press, Molefe lied to the Transnet board to inflate the controversial 1 064 locomotive tender from R38 billion to R54.5 billion. City Press reported on Sunday that it had seen a copy of a report by Werksmans Attorneys dated December 7 2017, and the name of the former Transnet group chief executive looms large in the 219-page report. The transaction, which is described in the report as “cloaked in corrupt and reckless activity”, saw the controversial Gupta family-linked businesses score billions in kickbacks. The report, which City Press obtained, led to the resignation of three board members from the parastatal two weeks ago.Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan also criticised the Transnet board in Parliament two weeks ago. He accused it of deliberately stalling on taking action against individuals implicated in corruption and failing to act on the report’s recommendations and conclusions.
In the report’s recommendations, it ordered that members of the board at the time, who “failed to apply their minds to the transaction”, should be held accountable; “all those currently in the employ of the enterprise” who gave the board “misleading, incorrect and inadequate information” about the deal should be disciplined; and the Hawks and the State Security Agency should be asked to investigate the deal. –City Press
