This timely intervention aims to assist municipalities grappling with the aftermath of heavy rains and floods that have ravaged several provinces since April 2022.

The allocation comes as part of the Treasury’s broader commitment to disaster relief, with an approved allocation of R1.844 billion for the 2023/24 financial year. These funds are earmarked to facilitate urgent repairs, reconstruction, and infrastructure rehabilitation, particularly focusing on ensuring access to clean water and essential government facilities for affected communities.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Thembi Nkadimeng, emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in fund utilization. She announced the approval of 199 projects across seven provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape, among others.
