Edna Molewa launches the Nandoni Bulk Water Supply | Infrastructure news

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa launched the Nandoni Bulk Water Supply, another water delivery project in Limpopo.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that both NR6 and NR5 pipelines are 100% complete and water is now flowing,” Molewa said at the launch. The many kilometres of pipelines and reservoirs as well as reticulation connections to households now supply clean drinking water to the communities around Thohoyandou and some at Makhado.

There are plans underway to connect the remaining villages to the Nandoni Dam. Over a million people will benefit from receiving water from the dam.

Community members who staged a protest at the treatment plant were informed by the ministerial delegation that plans are at an advanced stage to supply them with water. In the interim, there are 100 fully operational boreholes in the area that are producing good quality water as tested by the Water Affairs officials.

The boreholes were revived through a financial grant of over R6.2 billion provided by the National Treasury for servicing the remaining 4.8% of South Africans who don’t have clean piped water, as well as to revive non-functional and ageing infrastructure.

Molewa cautioned communities against vandalism of water infrastructure and urged members of the community to guard and report any vandalism aimed at denying them access to water.
