Celebrating 20 years of engineering excellence | Infrastructure news

ILISO Consulting, an African Consulting Engineering and Project Management firm is proud to announce its 20th year in the industry.

Established against the backdrop of South Africa’s fledgling democracy, ILISO Consulting has had the privilege of being involved with some of South Africa’s most high profile projects, which have made a meaningful contribution to the lives of thousands of South Africans.

This is according to Felix Fongoqa, the Executive Chairman of ILISO Consulting, who adds that ILISO Consulting’s team of executive directors are proud of what the company has accomplished in the 20 years since its establishment in 1995.

From humble beginnings

“From its humble beginnings, ILISO Consulting has grown to be widely recognised as one of the most professionally managed consulting engineering firms in Africa today, with a team of directors and senior executives who are all experts in their chosen fields,” says Fongoqa.

“This has allowed us to expand our operations well beyond our borders and tender on those projects that we have always believed will make a real impact on people’s lives,” he adds.

From water and sanitation services in townships throughout South Africa, to the highly innovative Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Systems, as well as world-class stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, ILISO Consulting has played a key role in those projects that have transformed the lives of thousands of South Africans.

Forming an engineering powerhouse

In 2014, the company celebrated another major milestone when it announced that it had entered into a long-term partnership with Lategan Bouwer Engineers (LBE) and Triocon Consulting Engineers to form the NAKO Group, the first African-owned, multi-disciplinary consulting engineering powerhouse.

“Each of these three consulting engineering companies brings with it a unique strength in one particular area of operation,” explains Fongoqa.

“With this in mind, the NAKO Group will actively be pursuing contracts across Africa to deliver a range of specialised world-class engineering services.”

According to Fongoqa, engineering is key to the opportunities for extensive infrastructure development across the African continent.

“We believe the time has come for us to demonstrate what we can do for ourselves as Africans, and take on the challenge to build a global giant out of Africa,” he explains.

Commenting on what the next 20 years hold for ILISO Consulting, Fongoqa says: “We aim to continue in our contribution to the development of Africa’s infrastructure.”

“We will achieve this by using the experience gained from 20 phenomenal years of exceptional people, unwavering integrity and engineering excellence,” he concludes.
