Many of the would-be students have nowhere to sleep and have resorted to asking strangers for accommodation. Every year bogus colleges continue to take advantage of desperate and vulnerable students yearning to pursue their studies. The Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) Company of South Africa’s Training Bursary Programme is geared towards bringing South Africa’s small but highly capable aerospace industry in line with the requirements of the global supply chain – and creating skilled and sustainable jobs. Human resources development is central to this, especially relating to transformation – to address historical racial imbalances while creating a pipeline of qualified and competent talent. Similarly, attracting and crucially, retaining highly skilled workers are key elements to ATNS’s success. The ATNS Bursary Programme provides each successful bursar with an opportunity to conduct their Air Traffic Control (ATC), Aeronautical Information Services Management (AISM) and Air Traffic Assistant (ATSA) studies at its award-winning ATNS Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg. Air Transport is a major contributor to global economic prosperity. Aviation provides the only rapid worldwide transportation network, which makes it essential for global business and tourism. It plays a vital role in facilitating economic growth Recent studies by Oxford Economics have quantified the significant economic impact that aviation generates across some of the major African markets. For example, in South Africa, it is estimated that aviation directly contributes 56 000 jobs (0.4% of employment) and made a value-added contribution to GDP of ZAR 20.1 billion in 2009.After the successful completion of the initial course at the ATA, ATNS may offer the bursar a eighteen months fixed term contract to complete the necessary operational on-the-job training including additional studies at the ATA.
Minimum qualifications are Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and English Symbols HG D, SG C or Level 4. Applicants should be aged between 18 and 35 years, and should be medically fit. Fluency in English with no speech impediments is strongly recommended. No experience is required but aviation passion and knowledge will be advantageous.
