The International Society for Trenchless Technology’s inaugural NO-DIG India Summit 2012 held in Bangalore from 14-15 May was attended by more than 100 delegates including senior government officers, contractors and consultants from many Indian cities.
The focus of the two day summit was the ISTT Trenchless Masterclass presented by international experts Dr Samuel Ariaratnam and Dr Dec Downey who delivered four indepth educational modules highlighting various the principal technologies and techniques used today. The programme was complemented by case study presentations from a number of industry suppliers who recounted experience of applying the various technologies both in India and elsewhere in the world in a variety of geological conditions. The sponsors’ exhibition area, featuring 10 key international organisations, provided a lively backdrop for delegates to network and to gather information and knowledge on some of the key techniques and equipment utilised in trenchless technology. Participants have reported that delegates showed a high level of interest in the products on display with confidence that business will be forthcoming as a result of contacts made.
At the close of the event, ISTT’s chairman Ariaratnam commented, “Immediate feedback would suggest that the two day summit has been a rewarding experience for attendees. For ISTT’s part, this was an excellent opportunity to meet local engineers and to have the opportunity of sharing information on the technologies available, to discuss the challenges encountered and also to present some solutions.”
