Beam-e is the culmination of 10 years of technology development by MiX Telematics. “We have been developing this technology since 2002 and in 2010 started the testing process. It is exciting to be the first to bring this technology to market this year,” says Horan.
Another first for the industry is that Beam-e has partnered with Tiger Wheel & Tyre so customers can now purchase their tracking system, at a Tiger Wheel & Tyre store. Joe Du Plooy, Marketing Executive for Tiger Wheel & Tyre, says customers can purchase and have the system placed in their vehicle within 10 minutes. “We are excited about this partnership and believe that Beam-e is an innovative and solid product. It will appeal to a wide range of customers who want a quick, affordable and reliable vehicle tracking solution,” he says. Beam-e was rolled out to all Tiger Wheel & Tyre stores nationally on 15 June. Beam-e comes with a lifetime warranty, also a first for the industry, mentions Horan. “As long as the Beam-e owner is paying their subscription fee each month, they don’t need to worry about repairs or replacement at the end of the unit’s battery life. We will arrange that they simply take their vehicle back to Tiger Wheel & Tyre and we will install a new Beam-e, free of charge,” he concludes. Beam-e, MiX Telematics’ latest entrant into the vehicle tracking market, is novel, tiny and totally wireless! Who knew that a tracking system the size of a chocolate bar would be the next innovation that the tracking industry would bring to market? But it is. Brendan Horan, Managing Director of MiX Telematics (Consumer), says Beam-e is literally a wireless recovery system the size of a chocolate bar that can be placed anywhere in a vehicle, or even in a trailer, motorbike, quad bike or caravan. “Being lightweight and wireless means it can be installed in more places in the vehicle and there’s no cutting of wires or vehicle battery connections needed. In other words, it won’t compromise or effect vehicle warranties or electronics at all,” he says.
