World Professional Driver’s Championships – exhibition | Infrastructure news

The Road Traffic Management Corporation in collaboration with the North West Provincial Government and the Union Internationale Des Chaufferures Routiers (UICR), and international body for Professional Drivers will be hosting the World Professional Drivers Championships from 9-10 August 2012 in Sun City, Rustenburg.

Participants in the World Championship are determined from the annual Professional Driver of the year competition (which is part of a driver training initiative) conducted by the Road Traffic Management Corporation.

The objective of the Professional Driver of the Year competition is to improve the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the heavy vehicle professional drivers and ultimately enhance the standard of heavy vehicle driving. This fundamentally results in better heavy vehicle drivers and a reduction in crashes.

South Africa for the first time will be hosting the World Professional Drivers Championships and it is expected that the country would maintain the same high standards of hosting this event as it did for the Soccer World Cup.

The World Championships will see hundreds of drivers from the national associations (including the Southern African Development Community), supporters and spectators coming to the country.

The championships will be patronized by local stakeholders who includes politicians – local, provincial and national, representatives from non-governmental agencies, media, celebrities, private sector representatives, captains of the transport and freight industry and officials from Metropolitans, Provinces and local authorities.

Additionally with the competition being held in Sun City exhibitions will also be open to patrons from the resort at no charge.
