Report on the Tripartite panel of experts meeting | Infrastructure news

The Tripartite panel of experts meeting held in Kigali from 29th-31st May 2012,  and was the 3rd meeting following the 2 held in Gaborone and Kampala.

The meeting was fully funded by TradeMark South Africa (TMSA), including all delegates’ travel and accommodation. It was chaired by a representative of the Transport Development Agency in Rwanda. There was a turnout of approximately 40 delegates hailing from most countries in East and Southern Africa.

The purpose of the meeting was to try and finalize the draft documents on the Fitness of Vehicles, the Evaluation of Vehicle Test Stations and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Abnormal Loads.

COMESA and SADC would annex the final documents to their Protocols which the EAC would then create an Act for.  This Act would be supra-national and will override national Acts in the EAC member states.

Keep checking the Transport World Africa website for the full report which will be uploaded in the ‘Business Insight’ section.
