Fatal crash in Vereeniging | Infrastructure news

A minibus has collided head-on with a truck at an intersection in Vereeniging, killing 12 people.

The minibus had 13 passengers in it at the time of the crash, leaving only one survivor. The truck only had the driver in it, and he survived without any injuries.

“It is believed that both vehicles may have crossed over the intersection at the wrong time, leading to the extensive impact of the head-on collision,” said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.

According to Jackson, 10 of the passengers were killed instantly on impact.

“Two people had sustained critical injuries, and paramedics immediately started resuscitation efforts on the one, but sadly the accident claimed an eleventh life.”

The second injured passenger unfortunately died shortly after arriving at hospital.

Paramedics have said that both vehicles were seriously damaged.
