Portuguese group Paulo Duarte is set to enter the Mozambican market via its subsidiary Transportes Paulo Duarte, the group’s largest company operating in the freight and distribution logistics sector, the group’s chairman José Paulo Duarte said.

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper Público, he said that the company had already been granted a license to operate in Mozambique where, together with Portuguese and Mozambican partners will start operating in Maputo, where it has its headquarters, before expanding into the rest of the country.

The group has invested 500,000 euros in this project, will operate using its own trucks, and plans to set up a maintenance company capable of dealing with its fleet’s needs locally.

The Paulo Duarte group, which in Portugal has centres in Torres Vedras, Setúbal, Matosinhos, Azambuja and Lamego, has a fleet of 600 vehicles and 620 tow trucks as well as a staff of around 900 people (both in transport and in agriculture) and began expanding internationally when it moved into the Spanish market.
