The Port of Cabinda since it was inaugurated on 20 August has handled 1,750 containers of miscellaneous cargo, the director for the ports technical and operational area, Artur Fernandes de Carvalho said Monday.
Fernandes de Carvalho said that the cargo handled was still a small amount due to reconstruction work on the port’s jetty, following an incident on 31 July, which damaged the ship mooring area. “We are operating with the services of the China International Fund (CIF) which unloads the ships that are anchored off the coast and, then, carries the containers to the jetty,” Carvalho told Angolan news agency Angop.Noting that reconstruction of the jetty would be concluded by the end of the month, the director said that eight long-haul ships and 16 coastal navigation ships had been received in the period.
“We expect to finish all repair work by the end of this month or the beginning of October,” he said. He noted that following repairs on the jetty projections pointed to 6,000 to 7,000 containers and 120,000 tons of cargo processed by the end of the year. (macauhub)
