Hosted by The Enviropaedia in association with SABC 3, this is an evening of fun and celebration that rewards companies and individuals who practice eco-logical values and thinking. Ranging from water to energy, recycling and eco-innovations, to eco-angels and eco-warriors, the 12 Eco-Logic Awards celebrate those who are making a positive difference to all life on Earth. With sponsors including SAB Miller, ACSA, Avis, RISO, Rand Water and Plastics SA, the Eco-Logic Awards prove that we can all make a meaningful difference to the world we live in. Nominations for this event closed on 24 August and with the judges looking at each award criteria carefully, they have made the following nominations as finalists in each award for the 2012 event. Award categories and nominationsThe Recycling Award, for a policy, programme or project that has demonstrably contributed to a greater public understanding and participation in waste reduction, re-use and recycling: Afripack; Collect-a-Can; Indalo Yethu; PRASA and Seed Experiences (Rocking the Daisies). The Energy Saving Award, for a product or service that results in energy saving: Kestrel; RISO; University of Free State; Asus and Vuka. The Eco-Warrior Award, for an individual, whose actions have defended, protected or prevented damage to the Earth’s life forms, eco-systems or natural resources: Braam Malherbe; Ella Bella – Generation Earth;Jonathon Deal – TKAG; Ivan Parkes – GCSA and David Lipschitz – My Power Station. The Eco-Angel Award, for an individual whose actions have conserved, nurtured or restored the Earth’s life forms, eco-systems or natural resources: Bridget Ringdahl – Eco Schools; Jeunesse Park – Food and Trees for Africa; Marcelle Meredith – NSPCA; Karen Trendler – EWT; Nicci Wright – FreeMe and Misha Teasdale – Greenpop. Eco-Community Award, for a community that has acted collectively to protect, preserve or restore the Earth’s life forms, eco-systems or natural resources: Coffee Shack; University of Western Cape; Oyster Bay; NACSA and LOWFT.
The Biodiversity Award awarded to an organisation for a successful biodiversity protection, rehabilitation or damage mitigation programme; SANCCOB; Wilderness; Bergplaas Nature Reserve; Food and Trees for Africa and EWT.
The Climate Change Award, for an organisation that has achieved a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. SAA; LED lighting; Food and Trees for Africa and Kestrel. The Eco-Innovation Award, for a new product or service that is financially viable and sustainable, that serves the needs of humans whilst being equally beneficial to the Earth and its eco-systems: Kommunity Group Projects; Betta Lights; RISO; Skylar and Bottleworx. The Youth Award, for an individual of 26 years or under who can show that their actions have protected, preserved or improved the earth’s eco-systems and natural resources: BlueBuck; Generations – Ella Bella: Sean Hide – GrowaTree and Kgomotso Abel Mkhandawire. The Water Conservation Award, for a product or service that results in water saving: eWasha; Eco Wash; Reel Gardening; Flamingo Casino and Aquatrap. The Transport Award, for a product or service that reduces the environmental impact of transport: SAA; Eqstra; Findalift; EWT and Seed Experiences – Rocking the Daisies. The Lifetime Achievement Award, for an individual that has served the interests of social and environmental sustainability for a period of 15 years or more.
