Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) has expressed concern about the Auditor General’s (AG) findings regarding the woes plaguing the Department of Public Works, which led to the department getting another disclaimer for the 2011/12 financial year.
Auditor General, Terence Nombembe could not rely on information provided by the department about, among other things, how many properties it owned and leased to sister departments and other state entities, and the accuracy of irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure. CESA CEO Graham Pirie, states “We are ready to offer the department our support in its endeavours because the status quo will not be allowed to continue. We are also concerned about the impact that this will have in ensuring service delivery to the people, in improving their living conditions for a better life for all.”
