Civil aviation authorities in the East African Community(EAC) are in talks to harmonize their operations, a move that will not only see that aircrafts acquire free movement in the EAC airspace but will also address what these national bodies regard as the biggest challenge to the growth of the region’s air transport sector.

“Aviation is growing in general; more airlines are coming in the region, more people are travelling and economies are performing better, meaning that investments in intra-regional and international travel are expanding, that’s why we are trying to make EAC accessible to everybody,” Dr. Richard Masozera, the Director General of Rwandan Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), and who also is a board member of the regional Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA) told a local daily.

This move might a beginning for cheaper fares in the air transport sector and also a better to boost business operations in landlocked countries like Rwanda.
