Bus drivers working for Rea Vaya parked their vehicles on Monday and entered into a strike leaving around 35 000 commuters stranded in Johannesburg.
Talks over wages and shifts between the Johannesburg municipality, employer and workers proved unsuccessful on Friday which has resulted in the strike of about 240 drivers. “Our bus drivers are on strike. They gave us a 48-hour notice to embark on a strike – after negotiations failed,” general manager Dumisani said. The bus company in the mean time is going to court to try and get an interdict to stop the strike.
