Imperial Cargo gets new Freightliner Argosy trucks | Infrastructure news

Imperial cargo has taken delivery of six new Freightliner Argosy trucks from Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA).

These new generation vehicles are around 800kg lighter than the average comparable trucks from Europe which means they can carry a heavier load.

“A saving of 0.2% on fuel is a big saving for us. The price of the trucks was also very competitive,” MD of Imperial Cargo, Christo Theron said. The trucks offer all the safety and premium comfort features, including two sleeping bunks.

The Freightliners boast some impressive specs with a 500hp Cummins ISX EURO III turbo-charged, water-cooled direct injection diesel engine coupled with an Eaton Fuller Ultrashift Plus transmission. The Ultrashift plus transmission adjusts gear shift point based on five different variables including incline and available engine torque. The trucks also feature electronic traction control and ABS braking system.
