Businesses trek for trash | Infrastructure news

Avis Fleet Services and ADT are pleased to announce their joint involvement in the CAN DO! Trekking for Trash initiative which is a 3 000 km walk currently being undertaken by social adventurers, Michael Baretta and Camilla Howard. The two adventurers recently embarked on the seven-month trek from Alexander Bay to Kosi Bay during which they will be picking up trash along the South African coastline.

According to the ‘Broken Window Theory’, of which Baretta is an avid proponent, when an area is clean and free of litter it suggests that the area is looked after and cared for, thereby reducing the potential for crime and disorder. In support of this philosophy, and as contributors to the betterment of society, Avis Fleet Services, together with ADT, has donated the support vehicle for Baretta and Howard as they campaign along their journey. The support vehicle will shadow the pair along the entire journey, providing transport for their supplies and support volunteers.

The relationship between Avis Fleet Services and ADT began in 1999, when Avis Fleet Services was appointed as the official fleet management service provider to ADT. The solid partnership entails an end to end fleet management solution which has been tailored with time and continues to deliver in its commitment to providing ADT as well as South African citizens with the highest level of safety and security they so rightfully deserve.

Edward Enslin, Managing Executive Sales and Marketing at Avis Fleet Services, says, “The CAN DO! Trekking for Trash initiative echoes the values of both ADT and Avis Fleet Services in terms of our sustainability objectives. We believe that taking care of our immediate surrounds is key to the long term sustainability and viability of our beaches as well as our country as a whole. As South Africans we should be united in the preservation of our environment. We encourage anyone who spots Camilla and Michael to join in this initiative and help to make a difference.”

Martin Ochien’g, Marketing and Strategy Director of ADT, agrees. “As a company reliant on the support of fleets of vehicles to impact people’s lives, this was a natural fit and partnership for us. ADT and Avis Fleet Services have a relationship built on trust and ethics, and it was with this in mind that we decided to form a partnership to support the clean-up of South Africa’s beaches. We admire Michael and Camilla and we are extremely proud to be part of this campaign. It is more than a walk, it is a journey to a cleaner and more prosperous South Africa.”
