The Botswana Minister of Transport and Communications, Nonofo Molefhi and South African Minister of Transport, Ben Martins, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for two infrastructure projects.
The two ministers signed the memorandum on Monday in Selebi-Phikwe which confirms their agreement to construct bridges in Platjan and Ramotswa. According to Minister Martins, the two African neighbours have relations on either side with a border being the only divisional barrier. He also mentioned that as Minsters, it is their duty to facilitate the obligations that they have under the Southern African Development Corporation (SADC). Martins explained that the ministries play a vital role in the development of infrastructure and boosting trade between the countries. “The decision to construct bridges at Ramotswa and Platjan was long taken and our aim now is to make sure that these plans see the light of day. Upon completion, the bridges will improve trade between our countries,” said Martins. The agreement states that South Africa is responsible for the building of the Platjan Bridge while Botswana will have to facilitate the construction project in Ramotswa.
